Doom 4: 10 Exciting New Details You Need To Know

Weapon crafting, a 13 hour campaign, and... randomly-generated enemies?! How genius is that!

For gamers who remember the early days of PC gaming, the upcoming reboot of Doom is one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2016. Publicized as a return to form for a franchise that hasn€™t seen a new installment in over 10 years, it is promising to bring back fast-paced, blood-soaked action for a new generation. Now with a sooner than expected release date of May 13th finally confirmed, more is being revealed as launch day approaches, though much still remains a mystery, appropriate given its hellish roots. And from what is known so far, this new Doom does appear to be going back to the basics, much to the delight of old school fans. And yet, it still looks to be a game of the modern age; a mixture of the old with the new into a game everyone can get into. Whether you have remained with the franchise since the beginning or are intrigued to step into Hell for the first time, these are some of the newest details you need to know about Doom.

10. It Will Feature Randomly-Generated Enemies

Single-player campaigns within the FPS genre tend not to have much replay value. Play it once and you€™ve seen just about everything there is to see. You play the same levels, wander the same corridors, and encounter the same enemies in the same locations every time. This fact has often been used to argue for the superiority of multiplayer over campaign modes. This appears not to be the case for Doom though. Recent datamining of the alpha indicates that there will be some randomly generated boss encounters. If this is true, it will be a pleasant surprise, as it will undoubtedly increase the replayability factor. Not knowing when and which powerful demon you will fight also adds a bit of tension, especially on the more challenging difficulty settings. Indeed, challenge seems to be a key factor behind this design decision, as it keeps the player from preparing for the expected. But this won't be the only way Doom will be keeping the player on their toes...
