Dungeons And Dragons: Ranking Every Official 5e Module Worst To Best
1. Curse Of Strahd
This adventure is centred around one of the most famous villains in Dungeons and Dragons history. In this tale Count Strahd Von Zarovich is a powerful vampire and the unquestioned ruler of Barovia.
Taking much of its inspiration from the standalone adventure Raveloft. The Curse of Strahd takes players from level 1-10 as they explore the demi-plane of Barovia, one of the Domains of Dread. Your players will find that they are trapped here until they finish what they started.
The adventure is a very well-created sandbox-style module. It allows for a full exploration of the land of Boravia. While the area on offer is fairly contained, most locations are fairly well fleshed out. This allows for some in-depth exploration. This works well as players are led to most locations. They will not feel like they’re leaving a plot hook so that they can investigate an area.
There are only a few problems with the module. The plot hooks in the first part of the campaign are fairly weak, some players may need so extra motivation given by the DM. The other small issue is that interactions with Strahd are up to the DM. No guide is given how to play him or how to act in some situations. This may cause less experienced DMs to make Strahd come off as a lacklustre villain.
Curse of Strahd may well be the best adventure module available for 5e. If you’re looking for a gothic horror setting, a new challenge, or maybe you just want to try something new, go and pick up this module for your party’s next session.
