E3 2012: Examining Nintendo’s 3 Big Announcements

1. Bayonetta 2

Bayonetta 2 Rock chick Bayonetta is back! The trailer showed the not-exactly-feminist witch battling fantastical golden armoured enemies on top of a jet using some of the coolest looking powers we€™ve ever seen, like the summoning of a gigantic demon head out of the ground or creating purple whirlwinds with her hands. The setting is a fairly generic looking skyscraper infested city, yet the character designs are really quite gorgeous. Enemies range from regal looking metal-plated priests to two-hundred foot mutant dragons that fill the night sky, showing the game is keeping up with its predecessor€™s diversity and impressively large set-pieces. What€™s more impressive is that Bayonetta herself has been de-sluttified, meaning the developers aren€™t trying quite as hard to titillate and it€™s actually possible to appreciate the heroine for something other than an over-sexualised caricature. Perhaps the biggest news though is the game might be two-player, or at least have a multiplayer mode, as the appearance of a second witch, along with a mysterious character at the end of the trailer, suggests fighting alongside a super-powered partner might be in store. Of course this is mere speculation, but two-player co-op seems a natural fit for a game such as this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dFfVBdRWmw Little else of note happened during their conference, as was to be expected given their console is already out, so if you missed it don€™t feel too bad. However, if any exclusive is going to get people on other consoles jealous, Bayonetta 2 is certainly it. Are you excited about the announcements? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
