E3 2016: 4 Ups & 7 Downs From Nintendo's Treehouse

5. Link Has No Gender Options

One of the big rumours going into E3 was that the new Zelda game would feature both male and female versions of protagonist Link.

As the gameplay livestream for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild made clear, though, this absolutely wasn't the case in reality, and it was later confirmed for definite that there would be no female Link in the game.

It's a shame on one hand, as this was a cool idea and one that would be fairly unobtrusive to the series as a whole, but at the same time, Nintendo shouldn't be strong-armed into changing their vision just for the sake of it. It's disappointing, but not the end of the world, basically.
