In what feels like a reoccurring trend this year, Bethesda also started their conference on some awkward footing. Yet, it was all done in a glorious one-two-three punch combo that zipped by at such a pace, one was left thinking if it was real, or some kind of fever dream?

After an oddly cloying intro-video, Pete Hines comes on-stage and throws some serious shade at Walmart for their game leak muck-up. Before you could catch your breath, Andrew WK highjacks the show in a hard rock performance that while good, felt completely lost on a blatantly uncomfortable seated audience.

Yet, it doesn’t end there; the Rage 2 presentation kicks off as ID Software’s Tim Willits walks on stage accompanied by a gigantic Viking man from Avalanche studios. While both are no doubt incredibly talented developers, standing next to each other they look like a C-grade Buddy Cop movie. The oddness is further accented by the Norse warrior seemingly unable to read the teleprompter and instead continuously egging the audience to cheer for the game to awkward effect.

Things eventually recovered once Todd Howard comes on stage and nailed a killer presentation - but until then, it was truly a bizarre spectacle of crazy tonal shifts.
