E3 2018: 6 Ups & 6 Downs From EA's Conference

Anthem still fails to convince.

Start your engines, folks. E3 is well and truly underway with the EA Play conference kicking things off on Saturday evening, and it's fair to say that the show was, well, a bit of a mixed bag.

EA's E3 conferences have been almost universally mediocre over the years so that's not terribly surprising, though considering the long-awaited titles they had the opportunity to show off, it's pretty shocking how counter-intuitive the show's structure and delivery often seemed.

There were at least some neat reveals and even an intriguing nod to what the future of the gaming industry may hold, though huge chunks of the show were basically skippable and didn't offer up too much of interest for the majority of people watching.

It's not a sterling start to E3, but a number of compelling low-key announcements nevertheless ensured it was far from a disaster. It won't be ranking highly among conferences this year - at least surely not? - but it wasn't a total waste of time either...
