E3 2018: 6 Ups & 6 Downs From EA's Conference

5. Command & Conquer Is Back...As A Mobile Game

Command And Conquer Rivals

Good news, Command and Conquer fans... sort of. The much-loved classic RTS franchise is getting its first instalment since 2012's free-to-play browser game Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances...but it's back in the form of a free-to-play, competitive mobile RTS.

A painfully overlong live play session showed off the game - complete with agonising shoutcast commentary - and didn't inspire much hope it'll do anything different with the well-worn mobile game formula.

It remains to be seen how the game's inevitable monetisation system is implemented, but regardless, it's depressing to see a brand franchise reduced to this. More to the point, the E3 stage is just the wrong place to reveal a mobile game, especially as it followed a lengthy sports segment.
