1. Marika's Hidden Rebellion
Marika's entire story is the most impactful to the world of Elden Ring, and everything the player learns about her almost consistently contradicts itself.
Marika was not only the God of this world, the vessel of the Greater Will, but she was also the powerful mother (or father) to the demigods, many of whom are powerful bosses the player/Tarnished must defeat.
Learning her story in full is a challenge for anyone, given that there are hundreds of pieces of lore about her scattered all over the Lands Between.
Though Marika's prowess as a warrior is not fully explored, she was able to slay the Fire Giants' "fell god".
Though she was the Greater Will's vessel, she refuted the Golden Order's "blind faith" to it, and eventually shattered the Elden Ring, forcing the Greater Will to trap her inside the Erdtree.
Though she banished Godfrey, she wanted him to return strong and wield a "god-slaying weapon" - implied to be used against herself or the Greater Will.
To this day, lore-hunters are trying to piece together Marika's plans and her rebellion. One thing is clear, however - the Lands Between's world-shattering events can all be traced back to her.
