6. The Wind Waker

Ocarina of Time
Nintendo

As great as Twilight Princess is, its predecessor Wind Waker just about takes the cake when it comes to great Zelda games on the Gamecube.

The series' third 3D outing has come a long way since it was released way back in 2002, with many fans' initial dismissal of the title due to its dramatic shift in art style making way for a deep appreciation of the game's story and mechanics. Although the game's 2013 remaster is by far the superior title (not least because it improves the game's sometimes jarring traversal mechanic by increasing sailing speed, and streamlines the much maligned Triforce Shards quest), the original still holds up in terms of visuals, the game's cartoon-y artstyle lending it a timeless quality.

With many player praising Wind Waker's soundtrack (often considered the best in the series), unique take on Hyrule and exploration aspects (only since bested by Breath Of The Wild), in recent years Wind Waker has transformed from what was initially perceived as a kid friendly Zelda title into a game that deserves to sit alongside the franchise's greats.

Eighteen years since it was first released, Wind Waker still brims with charm, and inarguably has the most personality of any Zelda game to date.
