Every Major 2017 Video Game - Ranked By Anticipation
7. Nier: Automata
The game to hopefully restore Platinum's track record, the studio have been off the boil for a while now, a far cry from the team who gave us Metal Gear Rising and Bayonetta, instead floundering as the hotly-anticipated Scalebound has just been cancelled.
All may not be lost though, as Nier: Automata looks outstanding.
Third-person hack n' slashing is already Platinum's bread and butter, but the twist with Automata is you've always got access to a machinegun volley of energy blasts. From here, occasionally the camera will dart to being overhead or to the side, transforming the game on the fly into a top-down shooter or side-scrolling blaster.
It really is great to see in motion, and the sheer amount of confidence Platinum are quietly exuding by letting their latest work do the talking hopefully means they've acknowledged their recent missteps, and are on the way to getting back in our good books.
