10. Nioh
You have to hand it to Team Ninja, they saw the rumours of Dark Souls coming to a close, realised there wasn't a suitable replacement for Hidetaka Miyazaki's consistently-delivering masterpieces, and stepped right in with their own contender.
As such, since its second beta, Nioh has been outstanding, a brilliant take on the 'Souls formula' with a heap of its own ideas to boot. Weapons can be handled in multiple stances, you're free to battle the 'ghosts' of any defeated fellow players (rewarding you with their loot in the process), and the world itself is a pleasant deviation from the gothic body horror the Souls series deals in.
A potent mix of Onimusha and the most unforgivingly tight parts of Dark Souls, there's every chance the student could become the master.
