Despite an initially worrying trailer that hinted at a more grim-dark take on the usually zany zombie-killing series, fan fears were put to rest when Dead Rising 3 released with the same charming sense of humour that the franchise was known for.

And while its recent sequel did away with many of the mechanics that made the series such a distinct property in a sea of similar zombie games, Dead Rising 3 managed to improve on divisive features like the ever-present countdown timer to make them work in its favour.

The only major downside to the game is its half-baked story, but even that does enough to justify the anarchic undead destruction that players are encouraged to take part in. Plus, any dud notes in the plot are easily ignored by the time you're stomping around the city in a zombie-proof mecha dragon suit.
