Media Molecule's Dreams is without question the most ambitious video game on this list, and while that should invite a reasonable air of scepticism, it's also one tempered by the fact that the game was recently released in Early Access form - and (mostly) appears to be living up to the hype.

Dreams allows players to create their own levels, stories and experiences with an absurdly powerful creation engine, and then share them online with the world.

And though it's still early days for a game that doesn't yet have a concrete release date, the Early Access version has seen players re-create iconic games (such as Super Mario and P.T.), come up with insanely inventive original games and craft genuinely affecting narrative experiences.

The Early Access game isn't a complete iteration of Dreams, lacking the much-hyped PSVR compatibility, single-player campaign and online multiplayer, but on the basis of its potentially never-ending suite of community-driven content, it really could be that rare game that just keeps on giving.

For PSVR owners the allure is especially intriguing, as the game's ability to allow players to seamlessly "surf" from one level to the next could make hours seem like minutes.

Of course, Dreams will ultimately live and die on the strength of its community, and whether or not the early conceptual levels and experiences can be sufficiently expanded upon.

But as a suite of near-boundless imagination, what's been unveiled so far is extremely convincing indeed.
