Fallout: 10 Biggest Controversies
2. Canvas(Less) Bag – Fallout 76
As previously suggested, the mouldy helmet was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to collector’s item fiascos. Another Bethesda merch misstep came in the form of the ‘Power Armour Edition’.
Coming in at a whopping $200, this special edition pack released in limited numbers during the launch of Fallout 76, included collectible figurines and a steel book game cover, you know, the usual stuff? It also came with a wearable power helmet (mould not included) and the now infamous canvas bag.
This controversy surrounding the bag is quite simple really, this ‘canvas’ bag was actually made of cheap and nasty nylon, the kind of stuff car seatbelts are made of, and far from the luxury canvas material one would expect at the exorbitant price point.
Worse still, influencers were sent the real deal canvas bags for free to promote the product before launch, it was only the players who paid the big money that got short changed.
Although the understandable backlash led to Bethesda promising to ship the real canvas bags eventually, the controversy surrounding this seemingly innocuous item didn’t end there…
