Fallout 4: 10 Core Lessons It Must Learn From Skyrim

8. Expand The World Even Further

One of the most enjoyable aspects of many recent RPG experiences has been exploring a vast, richly detailed world. The escapism of taking a personalised avatar on adventures across harsh deserts or through sprawling jungles can be masterfully entertaining compared to the humdrum of everyday life. The world in each game of the Fallout series may seem rather unappealing as an explorer's paradise, but there is something about traversing the nuclear wasteland that offers an adventure all its own. With this in mind, Bethesda would be wise to keep this world as large and varied as possible since it's likely this is one of the most sought-after features for players. Great RPG stories tend to come and go, but a great RPG world will be remembered and lauded long after the game's heyday. The available landscape in Bethesda's own Skyrim offered players such variety and vastness that even simple exploration of its caves, mountains and settlements was enough to keep players coming back for more. Fallout 4 could follow a similar model, not by simply stretching the landscape outwards, but by building upwardly and inwardly. Even though more bunkers, fortified settlements and natural caverns are a likely inclusion, they are certainly an essential one.
