Fallout 4: 10 Specific Things We Can't Wait To See Improved
3. Shooting & Responsive Gunplay
Aside from the new perks and gameplay implementations like building a Homestead, the first thing that really hit us back during the E3 reveal, was quite how much the shooting mechanics have been completely overhauled. It's reported that Fallout 4 started life as as a Skyrim port on the Xbox One, and after Bethesda realised they had the core foundations of movement and world design down, they could start implementing a shooting system that's far more responsive. Ostensibly, in the other two Fallouts, the only way you knew you were making any contact with enemies (other than watching for the blood spatter) was as their lifebars slowly depleted, not through weapon feedback. It wasn't terrible, but when you compare to games like Metro or Destiny for first-person combat, or Resident Evil 4 and Gears of War for third-person, there's a deftness to using your weapons in all of those games that makes them fun to try out just for the sake of pulling the trigger. Fallout 4 looks to have fixed the vast majority of the 'disconnected' feel many of us experienced in the past, and considering how long we'll be playing for, it'll be crucial to see if the new model is enjoyable enough to last for hundreds of hours.
