7. Variety Is The Spice Of Life
While the haunting, dusty wastelands of Bethesda's existing Fallout titles have presented the devastation of a post-nuclear world perfectly, it would be good to start to see some variety in the type of locations they let us explore. Where Fallout: New Vegas focused on a sizeable but samey region of the Mojave desert, it would perhaps be nice to see the next map made up of a cluster of smaller locations rather than just one big one. While the Normandy was Shepard's safe-haven from the horrors of war in Mass Effect, it was also his means with which to travel the galaxy and take the fight to the enemy. If players were granted a hub for their operations in one area of the map, with an available caravan for transport to various regions, then a segregated map with varying regions would work perfectly. Now, it is obvious that there's never going to be that much variety in a dusty, post-nuclear wasteland, but the foundations can vary. It would be a refreshing change to travel between a region of forest with it's thickest oaks blasted clean of their leaves and a dying, cratered coast. Adding varied flora and fauna, with different strategy options for traversing these various regions would keep the game as fresh as can be expected from a dying, grey world.
