Fallout 4 DLC: 10 Things We Can't Wait To Do

2. Play A REAL Survival Mode

Taking into account the solid survival modes in previous entries in the series, and the industry's trend towards testing games like Rust and Dayz, the Survival Mode in Fallout 4 was a bit of a bad joke. It essentially just upped the durability of enemies and reduced your own, rather than making things like hunger, sleep and hydration factors to your survival. It's quite possible that Bethesda withheld a true survival mode on purpose knowing that there'd be a demand for it, so that they could look all benevolent when they finally released it, or maybe they just somehow overlooked it. Whatever the case, they've now announced it's happening. According to the press release, "food, sleep, diseases, danger and more" would be coming to the wasteland, offering us the kind of raw challenge that's a little bit closer to replicating the actual feeling of trying to survival a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Who knows what exactly the mean by 'danger', but the prospect of diseases blighting the game is pretty intriguing; how about randomly-generating epidemics, where contagious diseases affect large parts of the land, and you need to be super-wary of creatures and people that are showing the symptoms? Also, less stimpaks and healing items please! Fallout 4 is a game that's drawn complaints for making it too easy to become overpowered, and a gritty survival mode is the best way to redress the balance.
