One of the major motifs of the trailer is that it constantly flashes back between the current, war-torn wasteland that will form the bulk of the game and also pre-nuke flashback sequences. Assuming these sequences aren't merely part of an establishing cut-scene, part of the game (presumably its opening) will depict the devastation which leads to the present day, culminating in the stunning above shot of innocent life being wiped out en masse. Some have already speculated that perhaps the game's opening tutorial section will have the player assume the role of one of the protagonist's ancestors, which would certainly be a novel touch and add a greater emotional investment to proceedings. As ever though, it remains to be seen...
