Fallout 76: 10 Take-Aways From Bethesda's E3 Conference
5. The Monsters
Very few of the monsters seen in the presentation were returning creatures from the Fallout series. Apart from an encounter with ghouls, a sighting of a Deathclaw, a few Super Mutants and one or two Mr. Gutsys, we're given a whole new host of opponents.
Todd Howard explained how most of the monsters were based on Appalachian folklore and cryptozoology, and he spoke with passion about the region. Many of the monsters depart from traditional Fallout enemy styles of mutants and body horror, but this makes it look like a unique game.
We see robot spiders, giant toads, the Beast of Grafton, scorchbeasts, and many other hideous monsters. In this regard, it looks like previous Fallout DLCs Far Harbour and Point Lookout played parts as major visual inflences.
Since the game is chronologically distant from the other games, it seems Bethesda got to exercise their creative licenses a lot more than in the previous games, which were more faithful to the originals.
