Fallout 76 Review: 4 Ups & 7 Downs
3. The Addictive Progression System
Probably the strongest element of the game is something that Bethesda has always been a dab hand at: progression. The usual RPG mechanics are here in abundance, with a new Perk card system forcing players to focus on a set number of disciplines at the expense of others.
It's not particularly complex or fresh, but it is an entertaining, compulsively engrossing loop seeing these cards doled out intermittently as you level up.
While it's undeniably in the service of a low-rent product, at least this aspect of the game isn't bogged down by nagging technical issues or the feeling that Bethesda quickly slapped it together.
It feels considered, versatile and balanced, which is more than you can say for pretty much everything else Fallout 76 has to offer.
