Fallout: Ranking Every Vault From Least To Most Horrifying
17. Vault 111 - Population Is Unwittingly Cryogenically Frozen
You'll remember Vault 111 - it's the one you're forced to sprint inside and make it to just in the nick of time as the bombs drop in Fallout 4.
On the surface, the Vault was promised to be just a fallout shelter like you'd expect. It was to house a large number of residents from the local area of Sanctuary Hills, including the Sole Survivor, our protagonist, and their spouse and infant son, Sean.
When they reach the Vault, the family is placed inside chambers which claim to be for contamination. In reality, these are cryogenic freezing pods, and the Vault was constructed to study the effects of cryogenic freezing on the unwitting dwellers.
When frozen, the Sole Survivor also briefly thaws out, witnessing their spouse being brutally murdered before his son is stolen. They are then frozen for another period of time, finally waking up 200 years after the initial freezing process to find the Vault completely abandoned.
