FIFA 13: 7 Things That Would Have Guaranteed Perfection

2. Licensed Referees

And following on from that last point - it seems a strange oversight that EA Sports didn't include something as simple as licensed referees in FIFA 13, especially considering how much depth the developer ritualistically goes into with the rest of the game's licenses. Think about it: as a fan of football in England I look out for which officials have been put in charge of my team's upcoming match, because each referee has their own behaviour type, and their own idiosyncracies. This one will let the first few robust tackles get through without punishment, that one will look to book any and every tackle deemed over-zealous, and that one likes to make himself centre-stage, breaking up play and flamboyantly stamping his authority on the match to keep the cameras on him. That sort of individualism in match refereeing could make all the difference to the way a player approaches a game, and would make preparing for matches a different experience depending on who the man in the middle is. It would also go some way to advancing the completist objectives of those in charge of the game's licenses.
