FIFA 13: 8 Historically Important Teams You Should Manage

1. Torino €“ Serie A

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHRJeJB4HQU Torino may be less famous than their Turin rivals Juventus, but it can be argued that they once had a better team than any in Europe. Il Grande Torino was the name given to the Torino team of the €˜40s. They revolutionised the game €“ they employed the 4-2-4 formation a decade before the 1958 Brazil team and heavily influenced Ajax and their Total Football €“ and created records that still stand today. To understand how exceptional they were; at one time eight or nine of the Italian national team starting eleven were Torino players. For a 3-2 win over Hungary, they started with ten members of Il Grande Torino team. They won five consecutive Serie A championships and for the 1947/48 season they scored 125 goals, 89 of which were at home. Dreadfully, on the May 4 1949, when returning from a friendly against Benfica, the plane carrying the vast majority of the squad crashed into the Basilica of Superga, killing everyone on board. Only three members of the team survived and the disaster not only wounded Torino, but the national team. Italy failed to advance past the first stage of a World Cup until 1970 and Torino, despite winning Serie A one final time in 1975-76, have never recovered. Last season Torino were promoted back to Serie A but the chances of them winning the league are non-existent. That€™s where the beauty of FIFA 13 comes in. Why not try and create another wonderful Torino team? Perhaps you can better their five-in-a-row record and even challenge for the Champions League; a competition created after their dominance. You could even take the position of Italy manager and try to win the World Cup with some of your own players; the chance that the wonderful Il Grande Torino team never had.
