8. Defender Mistakes

This point bugs me and my friends just as much as the keeper one (point 10). When the ball is coming over your defender's head and you're controlling him and desperately ordering him to blast the ball into the crowd. He ignores you and proceeds to either miss the ball or blank you, bring the ball down and get tackled by an on-rushing attacker - putting your opponent clean through on goal. I don't understand this because it just takes the skill out of the game and puts the result of the game into Lady Luck's hands. Obviously I've benefited from this scenario myself but it still feels like a cheap way to score a goal. Another example of this is when your opponent swings a cross in from either of the flanks and your chosen defender doesn't bother to jump which leaves the striker behind him with an easy volley or header. Again, this is all about luck and means you're not in control of your destiny. I'm not a big fan of defender mistakes because, as I am controlling him, I will make mistakes myself and concede chances through things like giving the ball away in my half or trying to pass the ball short from a goal kick. We don't need the game itself making mistakes because we humans make enough of them as it is. This is different to the goalkeeper point because we don't control the keepers (except in Pro Clubs) so the keeper has to make SOME mistakes, otherwise they'd be flawless.
