FIFA is a beloved franchise year on year, but it's important to recognise which aspects of the game are emphasised and restricted each year. The best players are those who identify EA's changes and adapt their play to reap the rewards. For example, last year saw headers and near-post finishes find the back of the net far more than in previous incarnations, in part due to some suspect goalkeeping.

'Keepers have been bulked up in terms of ability this year, making goalscoring quite a bit harder, but crosses and headers seem to be just as effective as ever (especially if you can master the new downwards header). However, the near post isn't quite as bountiful a target as last year, and success is more likely to be found by going across the man between the sticks.

FIFA 16 attempted to diminish the importance of pace, after it became a ludicrously overpowered attribute in prior years, but this year it's back with a (slightly more realistic) vengeance. Thankfully, things have been nicely balanced out by the rise of physicality in FIFA 17, and it's important to bear all of this in mind when constructing a side.
