FIFA 17: 7 New Features Fans Would Love (But Will Never Get)

These changes would be amazing... too bad they'll never happen.

Launching on 29th September, FIFA 17 will see one of the biggest ever changes to a FIFA title; the inclusion of a Story Mode for the very first time. 'The Journey' sees you play as Alex Hunter, a talented youngster who breaks into the Premier League and is thrust into the life-changing and highly-competitive world of professional football.

The story will change depending on how you treat your team-mates, how you react to the press and, of course, how you perform on the pitch.

That's a nice development, however, there are a whole host of other new features that fans would love to see in the FIFA series; additions that would only improve the realism and authenticity of the one of the most popular football video games.

Sadly, despite their popularity, the following features will just never, ever happen.

7. Custom Kits And Shirt Sponsors

Why We Would Love It

One of the most distracting things about FIFA’s Career Mode has always been that, despite playing a career across several seasons, the kits and sponsors never change. Unveiling next season’s kit has become one of the biggest aspects of a new season in football, with teams spending millions on worldwide marketing campaigns for the launch of their latest strips.

The top teams now have three or four different kits available per season, and companies go to great lengths to make sure it’s their logo on the shirts of the biggest clubs (Manchester United’s training kit even has its own exclusive sponsor).

So wouldn’t it be great if this was reflected in the FIFA games? At the start of each new season in Career Mode, you could be offered a choice between several pre-set kits to select, or even the option to create your own kit from scratch. And choosing a sponsor could become an important part of earning revenue for the club to pay for transfers. Picking a famous sponsor could give you more money but, like with the Board of Directors, could involve meeting certain criteria, like making it past the Champions League group stages.

Why It Will Never Happen

Probably the biggest difference between FIFA and its main rival, Pro Evolution Soccer, is that FIFA has the kit licenses for all the world’s football leagues. So giving the player the option to completely change these kits, even if it was just limited to Career Mode, is not something EA would want to allow.

Also, companies pay a lot of money to sponsor the major clubs, so a brand like Etihad Airways would not take kindly to seeing pictures and gameplay videos on YouTube of Manchester City’s shirt being sponsored by a rival company.
