FIFA 17: 7 New Features Fans Would Love (But Will Never Get)
1. Choice Of Commentators
Why Fans Would Love It
Fans have been asking for this for years. There’s nothing more divisive in football than commentators. If you’re stuck listening to one you don’t like, it can ruin the entire experience for you (whenever Michael Owen trends on Twitter, everyone knows why).
FIFA have mixed up the commentary teams occasionally, with Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend the default for international matches, but being able to choose from a selection of famous commentators would give players more freedom over the game and allow them to tailor the experience to their own tastes, becoming as important a setting as the choice of camera angle, game speed and referee leniency.
Why It Will Never Happen
Martin Tyler and Alan Smith have been the default commentary team on FIFA for years, and that’s not by chance. They have contracts to be in the game, so including the option to turn them off and pick different commentators would surely have an impact on these contracts.
Also, like with the issue over pundits, more commentators means more lines to record and more money for EA to pay out, especially when you take into account that you would need multiple commentators for all the major leagues, just adding to the workload for EA.
One Feature We Might Get – Story Mode with Custom Characters

Why Fans Would Love It
This is surely the ultimate dream for every football fan; creating their own player and seeing them rise from amateur to title-winning legend.
The main criticism of FIFA 17’s ambitious new story mode, ‘The Journey’, is that it isn’t ambitious enough, as you can only play as the pre-created Alex Hunter. If ‘The Journey’ is popular with the fans, the only sensible next step would be to add player-created characters to the story mode for FIFA 18.
Why This Might Happen
This wouldn’t be hard to do. Players have been able to create their own characters for decades in FIFA, so all the developers would need to do is allow you to drop that character into the story mode. Don’t be surprised if modders find a way to actually let you do this on the PC versions of the game in the next few weeks.
If ‘The Journey’ is well received by fans, then this dream feature could soon become a reality in FIFA 18.
