FIFA 17: 8 Things EA Still Can't Get Right
1. Commentary
Commentary has always been an issue with FIFA fans. Every year the commentary improves, with more player names and teams added and more natural, realistic discussion between Clive Tyldesley and Alan Smith. But there are still so many things wrong with the commentary that still haven’t been addressed.
Picture this; Bayern Munich are 6-0 up with minutes left, against a team who haven’t managed a single shot on target all game. A poor slide challenge gets a Bayern player sent off, and all of a sudden Alan Smith’s saying ‘it’s a backs to the wall job now’ and how Bayern will struggle to hold out for the rest of the match. Surely EA are capable of recording just a few more variant lines of dialogue for red cards for situations like this?
Also, the same old issues with commentary are still prevalent in FIFA 17, such as the clearly default viewpoints of certain teams in Career Mode (you’ve taken a League 1 club to the Premier League and have won the title several years in a row, but Alan still thinks you’re in for a relegation battle at the start of every new season), and the bizarre way the commentators stop announcing the score if it gets too high, even if it’s still fairly believable. It’s almost an impossible task to create dynamic, relevant and unique commentary for every game, but there’s so much more EA can do to improve this key feature.
