FIFA 19 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. Timed Shooting Only Really Works With Top Players

Unless you have the timing of a God, then you're going to want to avoid EA's flashy new 'Timed Finishing' mechanic this year. Go on, just try to pull it off with anyone but those players rated better than the high 70s and see what happens. That ball will either trickle harmlessly past the post or take someone's eye out in the third tier.

Maybe it had to be this way to give FIFA 19 some realism. If Port Vale players, for example, could blast world class volleys into the top bin from every cross, then things might become a bit tiresome. As they are, the system is a bit annoying and takes some time to get used to.

Prepare to activate it accidentally when you actually wanted to jostle for a header instead.

This is a small complaint, granted, and it's hard to criticise EA for trying something new. When it works, timed shooting does look amazing, but it's more of a game-changer for negative reasons than positive. Gears Of War's team and their 'Active Reload' idea have a lot to answer for.
