Final Fantasy: 15 Most Brutally Difficult Boss Battles

Millions of HP. Unforgiving attacks. Which bosses really ruined our day?

For every super-villain from Final Fantasy hell-bent on achieving world domination and/or meddling with timelines, destroying the planet and making everyone's lives a misery, there's generally another, more powerful monster lurking in the shadows.*

Chances are if you're playing a Final Fantasy game, the 'big bad' isn't really the baddest thing in the game. Nearly every game in the series has some form of superboss or extremely powerful enemies who make the 'last' boss look like a complete pushover.

Whether they're enjoying ludicrous amounts of hit points (50 million HP?!), spamming attacks that can kill you instantly or just love sapping you of all your MP, leaving you scrabbling for those turbo ethers, these guys are all in place to make your adventure all the more difficult.

Some bosses have great rewards tied to them. Others, you'll get nothing except the satisfaction of taking them down. If you've beaten a monster in the latter category, congrats!

Now you can smugly say to others, 'Yeah, you've finished it, but did you beat X??'

These are those battles...

*No, not counting Necron from FF IX in that list. That fella is so random it hurts.

15. Yiazmat - Final Fantasy XII

I hope you're in it for the long haul with this one.

Yiazmat, the ultimate Elite Mark as part of Final Fantasy XII's long, elaborate and altogether very fun hunting sidequest, takes at best an hour to complete.

An entire hour. At least. That's if you're at a really high level, have your gambits set up almost perfectly and are really good at Final Fantasy XII. It'll probably take you closer to 2 hours, or more.

Yiazmat takes so long because he's got over 50 MILLION hit points. He's got so much HP, he has 50 different HP bars, each made up of a million points each. So every time you wittle one down? There's another bar right there to ruin your day.

When you add in a load of other tricks such as a constant 5% chance of Yiazmat killing you instantly, him buffing his defense when he's at half health so the max damage you can do is 6,999 and the ability to kill even your strongest character in around two hits, this guy is absolutely no joke.

Beating Yiazmat nets you 30,000 gil and the Godslayer's Badge, which you'll need along with other maguffins to unlock the Wyrmhero blade, one of FFXII's strongest weapons.
