Final Fantasy developers Square Enix has confirmed the episodic structure of its Final Fantasy VII remake, stating it will be comprised of multiple, full-sized games instead of a series of thinner episodes. This information comes to us through the latest issue of Game Informer, and an interview with Final Fantasy VII Director Yoshinori Kitase. Therein, Kinase states that the development team are going to be using the Final Fantasy XIII template - which consists of three games - as the blueprint for whats to come with the Final Fantasy VII remake.

"This reimagined epic will be the next core Final Fantasy instalment - or rather, instalments," Game Informer's writer states. Kitase adds: "It will essentially be a full scale game for each part of the multi-part series. In XIII, each instalment told the story from a different angle. It was kind of like approaching an unknown territory in a sense."

Square Enix have shown an interest in modernising the story to make it more appealing with audiences. This could be prove to be a detriment to the series, depending on how the changes are handled.

Kitase defends the decision to alter the original when he tells Game Informer: "I, along with Nomura-san and Nojima-san - who are involved with the remake - were also involved with the original Final Fantasy," Kitase said. "We were the people who created it, so in that sense, we don't think anything is untouchable. That isn't to say we're changing everything!"

The Final Fantasy VII remake is yet to receive a release date. Final Fantasy XV, will launch September 30th for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
