Final Fantasy VII Remake Not A Priority For Square Enix

You probably won't be seeing a Final Fantasy VII remake for a while.

Just a couple weeks ago Tetsuya Nomura announced that a Final Fantasy VII remake was not on the top priority list of Square Enix. In fact here is his exact quote:
€œThere are a lot of people who want a remake of Final Fantasy VII. However, new titles take precedence. We work our hardest to make something that might be even better than Final Fantasy VII.€
Well today Square Enix spoke even more about the issue at their annual shareholder meeting. According to CEO Yoichi Wada, a remake of Final Fantasy VII will not be done until they make a new Final Fantasy game that "exceeds the quality of Final Fantasy VII." He went on to say that if Square Enix were to release the remake of Final Fantasy VII now "the Final Fantasy franchise would be done with." Wada also stated that the team would be willing to do it if these conditions are met. In addition, if they ever do decide to remake Final Fantasy VII they would "give it their full effort". So we are going to have to wait for Square Enix to make a Final Fantasy better than Final Fantasy VII before we get a remake, this could take a while. The past couple Final Fantasy games have not really been up to par and we haven't heard from Final Fantasy Versus XIII in a long time. At this point we probably won't even see a Kingdom Hearts game on current generation consoles, so we definitely wouldn't see a Final Fantasy remake until the PS4. I know a lot of people want to see a Final Fantasy remake, but with the quality of the series somewhat on a downturn, would you trust Square Enix to do Final Fantasy VII remake the right way?
