6. The Mythology
Like FFXIII and Type-0 before it, FFXV falls under the Fabulla Nova Chrystallis banner, meaning that it utilises a lot of the same mythology and concepts. The mythos actually has a lot of cool ideas and thematic elements, inescapable fate, and humanity being used as pawns by a pantheon of enigmatic, often malicious deities. That could make for some really good stories if done well. However, in all four of the previous games centered around it, the Chrystallis mythology has been a poorly presented overly complicated mess. FFXIII threw out dozens of awkward-sounding, easy to confuse fantasy terms vital to the games story... and then proceeded to explain them through the riveting storytelling technique of handing the player an in-game dictionary and expecting them to read through to understand whats going on. To that end, we better get a better explanation for Noctis superpowers beyond a simple The goddess Etro did it. FFXV needs to do a better job of explaining its lore and in-universe mechanics, simple as.
