Final Fantasy XV: 9 Big Changes You Need To Know About

2. Changes Between Original PS3 Version/Current-Gen Versions

Perhaps the biggest change present in FFXV is its switch from different platforms. The original game - Versus XIII - was originally meant to be PS3 bound. After years of not much being done with the concept, this idea was then scrapped and development began for next-gen platforms. This switch brought with it some significant changes, including differences between the main characters' appearances (even the car was changed), a new focus on setting the game apart from others in the franchise and more than likely changes to the actual plot. Even the game's director was changed halfway through, with the man who helmed popular FF7 spinoff Crisis Core taking the reins. He's went on record stating that (at time of writing) the game is over 60% done, which is good news considering it's been in on-off development for 8 years. The battle system has also been worked, re-worked and changed more times than you'd think. The core of the system remains the same - real time action - but the rebranding of Versus XIII into XV also added a number of new layers into battling, including co-operative attacks and a dedicated guarding button. It also removed character switching, choosing to instead focus on controlling the main character, Noctis, while your other characters are controlled by the AI.
