FINALLY, Knights Of The Old Republic Is Returning!
Get ready to take yet another trip to a galaxy far, far away.
It feels like barely a month goes by where we don’t hear something about a new Knights of the Old Republic game, but this time there seems to be a renewed sense of optimism that we really are going to be able to revisit this beloved Star Wars gaming franchise.
From the usually reliable Jordan Maison over at Cinelinx, EA is once again looking to develop a new Knights of the Old Republic offering.
Now while a KOTOR remake was originally set in motion back in 2015, EA scrapped that project less than a year later due to not seeing it as a priority. Fast forward to a 2020 in which The Rise of Skywalker has just surpassed a $1 billion global box office haul, The Mandalorian has wowed Disney+ audiences, The Clone Wars is imminently returning for a seventh season, and, most importantly, Jedi: Fallen Order has received so much praise and plaudits, and you can see why EA might now think that it’s a wise time to move forward once more with a Knights of the Old Republic remake.
The thing is, it appears that the straight-up Knights of the Old Republic remake is being re-imagined so that this new offering will instead serve as a soft redo that also serves as a pseudo sequel to the previous two Knights of the Old Republic games. The logic behind that is so that the current canon of the greater Star Wars IP can be integrated into KOTOR.
In addition to a freshened-up Knights of the Old Republic seemingly on the way, EA is at work on a slew of other gaming adventures set in a galaxy far, far away. An obvious sequel to the stunning Jedi: Fallen Order is just one such project, while the mysterious Project Luminous is rumoured to take gamers back 400 years before the events of A New Hope, and then there’s a to-be-revealed Star Wars title heading to the Switch.
Expect more on all of these projects as further details become available.
