Football Manager 2013: 10 Factors That Make It Essential

3. Even More Depth

As a direct result of the introduction of the stripped back Classic Mode, SI Games have been given even more free-reign to introduce more hardcore-gamer friendly depth to the full version of the game. They've introduced more complex ideas and features into play that would probably have alienated more casual players and turned them away last year, which will entice those of us who like more detail, and more engrossing complexity to leave behind the quick-fix appeal of the Classic mode, and spend more than an hour in pre-season, building a dynasty and trying out new formations and combinations, watching the extended match-highlights and consulting with staff on individual players. This is a management game for the new breed of players - those who consult back-room experts and turn the game into a fine art, as opposed to the vim and vigour, "fight them on the beaches" approaches of the old school. And crucially, Miles Jacobson insists nothing will be taken away from those who want to play the full-fat version:
"I would, however, like to stress to our many, many fans around the world that the introduction of FMC will not impact in any way on the game that they've come to know and love. For those who still want the full, 'hands-on' experience, FM13 offers exactly what they're looking for."
