Restoring AC Milan’s glory days has been a fun Football Manager challenge for several years now. The club haven’t won Serie A since 2011, and have struggled to even qualify for Europe in recent seasons, with their 6th place finish in 2016/17 standing as their highest in four years.

Juventus have come to dominate Italy, and AC have been left in the dust. Their current squad is stronger than it has been in recent years, and last season saw the club make a long overdue shift towards youth, with the likes of Alessio Romagnoli and Manuel Locatelli featuring prominently. Both were excellent prospects in last year’s game, and if you can hold onto them in FM18, they’ll help form the spine of your team for years.

The squad is still full of holes, however. Milan are woefully shorthanded at the back, and the likes of Ignazio Abate, Cristian Zapata, and Leo Vangioni are well below the standards AC should be aiming for. A big overhaul is needed, and while Milan’s squad isn’t as clogged with ageing veterans as it used to be, star ‘keeper Gianlugui Donnarumma looks set to depart, and there’s still plenty of work to do.
