Although Football Manager has always been a series that prides itself on incorporating the little details into a game, there are some parts that have been easy to just dismiss, such as the negotiation part of agreeing on a player's contract.

Some savvy individuals would leave it up to their Director of Football to deal with, whereas others might just accept whatever demands a player suggests just to get them, without little care for finances or if they're able to fulfill promises.

Football Manager 2020 makes contract negotiations far more difficult by making you give the player a year-by-year development plan. While they might be a hot prospect at the beginning of their contract, players and their agents will want to see how you plan on progressing into a regular starter or even an important member of the squad.

So unless you have a legitimate plan for how you're going to use a player in the short and long-term, you might want to rethink your transfer in case it results in a disgruntled player and a potentially upset squad.
