No one quite expected Fortnite: Battle Royale. Probably not even Epic Games. In fact, just last year, it seemed the battle royale genre had been completely taken over by the phenomenon that was PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Now though, mere months on, Fortnite: Battle Royale is the game to beat.

With a more accessible playstyle, an interesting building mechanic and a player count that often dwarfs PUBG's, it seems like people just can't stop playing Epic's big surprise.

Thanks to Fortnite's recognisable gameplay, which distinguishes itself thanks to a unique building mechanic where you use gathered materials to create massive, hopefully impenetrable fortresses, several player types have developed over since that initial release. Due to the ridiculous number of players and the ease of finding games and jumping in, there's a great chance of meeting these almost stereotypical Fortnite players at this point.

There are, broadly speaking, two ways of approaching a game of Fortnite. Either you can jump out of the battle bus and soar towards the farther sides of the map, usually escaping death for a little while and taking a more measured approach. Or, you can jump right into the fray.

Taking the second option generally means a trip to Tilted Towers, an area in the game notorious for being an early-round death fest. Players with no care for self-preservation will often head straight here for a massive gun battle - the winner takes the spoils, as well as likely a boatload of kills. Tilted Towers has become incredibly famous online and is often avoided by those who don't want to die immediately.
