Fortnite Chapter 2: 8 Biggest New Changes

2. Progression Overhaul

One of the biggest changes to Fortnite in Chapter 2 is a complete reworking of the XP and Battle Pass progression systems - namely, they've been merged into one. Instead of a separate Level and Battle Pass Rank, they're now one and the same, with Battle Pass rewards locked to Levels instead of Ranks.

As a result, completing missions now grants large amounts of XP instead of Battle Pass Stars. There's also a much bigger focus on XP in general - you're now told whenever you gain XP in a match, and there's a level bar along the bottom of the HUD that tells you how much more you need to get to reach the next level.

Speaking of gaining XP in matches, there are now way, way more ways of doing it. Pretty much everything you do will grant you varying amounts of XP. This is accompanied by a new Medal system.

Performing certain actions a number of times will earn you Medals which grant you an XP bonus on attainment. Acquiring enough Medals to fill up a punchcard each day then grants you even MORE bonus XP.
