Gamescom 2018: 14 Things We Learned
14. Assassin's Creed Will Skip 2019
Given Ubisoft's craven love of money, it was pretty surprising to hear them confirm that there won't be a new mainline Assassin's Creed game next year, with the publisher instead supporting Assassin's Creed Odyssey with new content.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also confirmed that there wouldn't be a smaller spin-off title released in lieu, with the focus trained squarely on making Odyssey a service-like title until 2020's new game is released.
This isn't the first time the series has taken a breather, of course, with Ubisoft taking a year off in 2016 following the middling response to the two previous titles, Unity and Syndicate.
While it'll be interesting to see exactly how Ubisoft exploits the service model for Odyssey - and quite how consumers will respond to it - it's probably preferable to just dispassionately churning out new games every year for the sake of it.
