Gears Of War: Every Game Ranked From Worst To Best

Chainsaws, sad songs and a BUNCH of chest-high walls.

For almost 13 years now, Gears of War has been one of the powerhouses franchises in video games. This series didn’t just fundamentally change the course of the third person action genre, with legions of clones pumped out in its wake, but the trajectory of the Xbox 360 itself.

Gears of War has also been a step in the right direction when it comes to storytelling and character design, as this series has kind of grown up with a generation of players.

What was a series full of musclebound space marine archetypes, slowly morphed into characters that had personality, and many of us truly cared about who lived or died. Who would’ve thought there would ever be any tear-jerking moments when Gears first hit our shelves back in 2006?

It isn’t often that a franchise like this becomes a trendsetter and manages to not only stay relevant, but also still be good so many years later.

You just have to look at the state of Halo and Mass Effect to see how quickly things can fall off a cliff, so with all that mind, how does the whole series rank, and which is the best of the bunch?

8. Gears POP!

Back in E3 2018 we had three new Gears games announced: Gears 5, Gears Tactics (which we've seen precious little of), and Gears POP. The latter has taken Gears, fused it with Funko POPs and forced it all into a Clash of Clans style phone game.

Admittedly this is one of the better free to play games released on the mobile in 2019, but that is all it really is. Send waves of troops, Locust or COG to fight another player and destroy their base.

Wait for a cooldown meter to dictate who's freed up and when, then once you’ve done that, just rinse and repeat until you're bored.

Hey, at least you can chainsaw the loser's head off afterwards and there's achievement support.
