7. A Much Darker Tone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccWrbGEFgI8 There's not been a whole lot from the official channels when it comes to official word on Gears 4 outside of some "OMG"-tinged tweets from guys like Microsoft's Phil Spencer, saying the dev team are making "massive progress". However,
IGN reported last October that former producer Rod Fergusson had mentioned that since the first instalment the series had essentially become a parody of itself. Not in a bad way he was hasten to add, but when you look back on how everything started out with that immaculately presented, nightmarish Mad World-themed teaser trailer, it's easy to see what he's getting at. If this is emblematic of the design process and creative direction going into the new game, then a push towards the desperate and isolated themes of that trailer might be what's in store - and that would really break the mould from the well-worn territory of the first three games. Do you want a more serious Gears game, or more excuses to fight bigger enemies with even bigger weapons?
