Ghost Recon: Wildlands - 10 Things We Learned From The Beta

3. The Open-World Is Huge

Pretty much everyone is lauding Wildlands' open-world at the mo', and why shouldn't they? It looks fantastic, and even the tiny province we got to mess around with in the beta was pretty damn big. Come release, Itacua will form just one of the many provinces of Ubisoft's version of Bolivia, complete with their own populaces, bosses, and enemies to compete with.

In terms of sheer scale alone, Wildlands already smashes previous entries in the franchise. The beta seemed to indicate that there would be enough in that world to entertain as well, and, given the climate variety already on show in the game's numerous trailers, it looks as though there won't be a shortage of gorgeous visuals to admire either.

In regards to how the world will work, I'll admit it does feel largely derivative of Shadow of Mordor and Mafia III, but hey, there's a reason why that non-linear system worked. In this instance, the presence of a non-linear narrative as well as an open-world compliments the title's co-op goals, ensuring that engagements don't fall into an overly linear fashion (ala Future Soldier), or turn into a repetitive event (ala Far Cry).
