Glitches: Why They Should Be A Bigger Concern In The Gaming Industry

Are Glitches Really That Big Of A Deal?

Last of us glitch So are glitches really that big of a deal? I mean they do give us comedic gold like the haunted swing set that will launch you far across Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto IV. They let us fight cougar men, hunt flying people, and ride donkey women in Red Dead Redemption. And they let you steal anything and everything you want in the shops of Skyrim with one well-placed basket. Other times, however, you find your character stuck in invisible objects. Characters you're escorting forget about your existence and are permanently stuck in place making it impossible to complete a mission. You do a little too much exploring and end up falling right through the game world into the infinity of "blue hell," and in the height of your cinematic gaming experience your game and your entire system crashes and sometimes you will boot it back up to corrupted save files. Perhaps not everyone has encountered game breaking glitches, but I can guarantee everyone has encountered little bugs and glitches in even the most polished of games. In this day and age of gaming, where day-one patches are the norm and the game worlds are only getting bigger and more detailed, it's a little demanding and I would imagine challenging to create something of that scale without one tiny technical hitch. I don't mind a little glitch here and there as long as it doesn't affect the mission I'm in, ruin crucial parts of the story, or crash my system. However I have been running into more and more of these issues with every new release and was hardly forewarned in the reviews. Now that you have made it to the end of this opinion piece-or rant rather, do you agree? Disagree? Do you feel glitches need to be mentioned in reviews? Or could you not care less because day-one patches are here to save the day? And finally, have you ever had a gaming experience ruined by a game breaking glitch? Let us know in the comments.
