God Of War: 20 Awesome Easter Eggs You Need To See
10. Farbauti
The ending to God of War hits players with reveal after reveal after reveal, with a second helping of twists to finish it off.
Atreus is revealed to be Loki. His mother, Faye, is revealed to the giantess Laufey and the mural also prophesies Kratos’ death - by whose hand remains a mystery. But a question that has been asked by fans is how Kratos fits within Norse mythology.
Being a God from another realm (another pantheon in fact), how he fits in without disrupting the lore remains unclear. That is until you translate the mural that you find on Jotunheim.
The mural reveals that Faye gave Kratos the name Farbauti, and according to Norse mythology, was also a giant from Jotunheim and was indeed the husband to Laufey and father to Loki.
The name also means ‘cruel striker’, an added extra for the Ghost of Sparta and the destroyer of the Greek pantheon. While we know Kratos is not technically a giant, the name confirms his place within Norse mythology and the continuity of the lore.
