3. The Boar Identity
Kratos and Atreus first encounter Freya after hunting a boar through the enchanted forest.
It is soon made aware that this boar is no ordinary boar, but a friend of Freya, the Witch of the Woods. When you leave her house for the first time, before heading out, if Kratos goes back inside, we learn that the boar’s name is Hildisvini.
This a thinly veiled hint to Freya’s true identity. Hildisvini was a shapeshifter from another realm, that likely refers to Ottar, Freya’s protege. In myth, Ottar disguises himself as Hildisivini to learn more about his origins.
Hildisivni was also known as Freya’s “battle swine”, according to Norse myth.
