God Of War 2018: 9 Subtly Genius Easter Eggs You Totally Missed
5. Kratos Is "Farbauti"
Still wondering where Kratos fits into wider Norse mythology? Look no further.
The intricate and prophetic murals Kratos and Atreus stumble upon in Jötunheim not only reveal the latter's true nature as the trickster god Loki, but his father's calling, too. Accompanying the visual story foretelling the pair's perilous journey to Fae's motherland are words and phrases written in the Runic Alphabet.
One of these, engraved next to an image of Kratos, translates to 'Farbauti'. In Norse mythology, Farbauti was a jötnar married to, you guessed it, Laufey (Fae for short) and the father of Loki.
The discrepancy, of course, lies in the fact that Kratos has always been depicted as a born and bred Spartan, not a giant, but is this still the case?
Kratos' insertion into Santa Monica's interpretation of Norse mythology could be just that, or it could be an allusion to a hidden past that not even the Ghost of Sparta is aware of.
