5. Grand Theft Auto IV
This may appear obvious to most readers, but truthfully, I actually really enjoy GTA IV for what it was. It isnt sitting at last place out of negativity, but rather carries the honour of being the least-great GTA game. The immigrant chasing the American dream in protagonist Niko Bellic is an engaging plight, and an interesting departure from the more madcap cartoonish scenarios found in previous games, but steeps itself in a bleak atmosphere that doesnt really suit the franchise. The game ultimately just doesnt leave a strong lasting impression. Gameplay is where everything really matters, and the game falls disappointingly short in numerous areas here, unless you for some reason loved cousin Roman blowing up your phone to go play Bowling every five minutes, or micromanaging virtual female relationships. The hyper-realistic driving mechanics didnt do it any favors either. As a story based experience, GTA IV is a great game, but past that I dont have much else to acknowledge.
